Skagit Valley Food Co-op is Now Accepting WIC!

We are excited to announce that the Skagit Valley Food Co-op is now a WIC-approved grocery store. Being a WIC-certified grocery store gives us the opportunity to support food access programs in our community.

What is WIC?

WIC is a food-based prescription program meant to ensure adequate nutrition for nursing mothers, infants, and small children. Participants are given allotments of milk, eggs, vegetables, whole grains, and infant foods. These allotments can be specific brands and sizes. Benefits are loaded onto a card, similar to the EBT/SNAP card we already accept.

What does this mean for the Co-op?

Women receiving supplemental nutrition benefits for their infants or children can use those benefits to purchase approved staple foods such as fruits and vegetables, eggs, milk, cereal and baby food right here at the co-op. You'll see some new WIC eligible grocery items on our shelves, indicated with special signage. We are excited to expand our product mix to better meet the needs of our whole community!

WICShopper App

If you’re a WIC recipient, the easiest way to access your benefits is to download the WICShopper App.

Be sure to select Washington State when you first open the App. You don’t need a WIC card to scan products to determine eligibility. Additionally, we have blue WIC-approved shelf tags to identify WIC-eligible foods.
