Since Oct 2020, CMSC has housed and operated the Help Me Grow-Skagit Family Resource Center. There has been a continuous need to purchase supplies that are not being distributed elsewhere to families, including basic needs (diapers, wipes, formula, car seats, safe sleep), cleaning supplies, hygiene supplies (toilet paper, soap, shampoo, tooth brushes, toothpaste, towels, breast pumps and breast pads), space heaters and blankets. Two members of the Help Me Grow team are certified car seat safety technicians.
Additionally, the center provides educational activity kits and books for families with children pre-birth to 8 years of age, primarily. They have also provided gas vouchers for several families that have had infants in the NICU at Seattle Children's Hospital. The HMGS FRC serves 70-75 families/week and communicates with families in six languages, with additional resources available.
Funds from 5% Friday will be used to purchase supplies to be distributed to families in need, including anything from household and personal care basic needs, to other infant/child-related items. The impact from 5% Friday donations will go directly back to Skagit County families. To date, Help Me Grow has provided assistance and/or basic needs & educational items to over 2,500 families. Through partnerships, they’ve distributed over 500,000 diapers in the past year and a half alone!
