4% Friday Community Shopping Day: IRIS

  • Skagit Valley Food Co-op 202 South 1st Street Mount Vernon, WA, 98273 United States (map)

The mission of IRIS is to connect immigrants with existing resources in the community and provide immediate assistance to those experiencing a period of crisis. IRIS conducts intakes to learn about the family in need and refer them to outside resources such as food banks. When there is still an urgent unmet need, IRIS will buy items or pay a bill or fee.

IRIS prioritizes serving immigrants who are no eligible for other resources such as food stamps. Most of IRIS clients are farmworkers, undocumented individuals, asylum seekers, people who do not speak English, and are indigenous from Mexico and Central America.

How Will Your Shopping Trip Support Immigrant Resources and Immediate Support?

100% of the funds from 4% Friday will be used for direct support for IRIS recipients. Examples of this include shopping trips for food and hygiene supplies, mattresses, coats, bedding, and clothing purchased second hand, fees for immigrant consultations, payments for overdue utility bills, supplies for newborn babies, and more. IRIS makes purchases for locally-owned businesses and buy second hand items for the health of the planet and community.
