According to several sources “punch”is a word and beverage with roots in India. The word punch is derived from the Hindi word paantsch meaning “five”and the drink was made from five ingredients:spirit,sugar,lemon,water and tea or spices. The delightful concoction was adopted by British sailors and brought back to Europe and later the New World.
Today punch is made from any number of ingredients,and it’s time to get creative! Brighten up your summer days with punch. Summer Punch
Ingredients:
- 1 Santa Cruz Organics 32 oz. Lemonade
- 1 Santa Cruz Organics 32 oz. Raspberry Lemonade
- 1 liter (35 oz.) bottle Mountain Valley Springs or San Pellegrino mineral water
- Slices of fresh lemon or lime
- Ice cubes to keep cold
- Fruit sorbet or ice cream –try the Co-op’s organic Orange Sorbet
- 1 bottle Prometheus Springs spiced elixir (optional)
- Fresh mint and basil (optional)
Directions:
In a large punch bowl mix the lemonades and spiced elixir together until well blended. Add sparkling water and mix. Immediately before serving:add slices of fresh fruit,herbs and top with scoops of fruit sherbet or sorbet. Serve with a smile. It’s punch time!
