We at the Co-op are proud to be the first place in Washington State to offer Rox Chox: delicious raw heirloom chocolates that are GMO free, fair trade, gluten-free, organic, dairy-free, nut-free, and sweetened with birch. Intensely rich and salty-sweet these healthy goodies are handmade in Portland. Made from the finest raw cacao – a native Ecuadorian species named Arriba Nacional-Fino de Aroma – the bars are flecked with crystals of Celtic sea salt, non-alcohol organic vanilla and raw organic coconut oil and flakes that melt in your mouth. The minimally processed Rox Chox bars are also rich in minerals, antioxidants, and Omega 3 fatty acids.
The story of how Rox Chox got to Skagit Valley begins with a trip to Portland earlier this spring. I visited one of our sister co-ops, People’s Co-op, and met Rochelle, one of the makers of Rox Chox. She graciously gave me a sample to bring back to our grocery managers. I headed back with the best of intentions, but alas, succumbed to temptation and ate the sample bar. It was irresistible – a perfect combination of rich, meaty chocolate and balancing savory coconut and sea salt. I contacted Rochelle and begged for forgiveness. She understood and sent a few more samples, which caught the palates of our pro-chocolate grocery staff.
Look for Rox Chox in our refrigerated tortilla case. Safe and recommended for diabetics and those on an anti-candida (low sugar) diet. Store in a cool place and serve at room temperature. Take home your own parcel of raw chocolate joy!
