Alfalfa Tea Recipe for Roses/Ornamentals
Alfalfa is excellent as a soil builder. In a tea,it can be available to your plants even earlier. Alfalfa’s carbon/nitrogen ratio is one of the lowest of any plants (12 to 1),meaning it decomposes rapidly. Alfalfa also contains a remarkable root growth stimulant known as triacontinol.
1 cup of alfalfa meal to 4 gallons of water in a metal container (like a trash can)
1/4 cup Epsom salts (adds magnesium)
Stir together and cover with a lid. Stir once each day for four days. Mixture will foam and smell bad. Apply to base of plants. All ornamentals can benefit from application of this tea,but it is particularly useful for Roses.
Through the end of April – Great selection of container plants on sale $2.49 reg $2.79. All the most popular ‘basket stuffers’ go fast,so shop now for best variety. Growers:Windy Meadows,Thompson’s Greenhouse,Joe’s Garden and Cascade Cuts.
