A monthly series devoted to expanding awareness of self,others and life. ’Dyadic contemplation’ is unique in that it builds community as participants are paired up,taking turns between one being the “contemplator”and the other,the “listening partner.” Benefits are expanded empathy and compassion for others,self awareness,increased self confidence,and improved interpersonal relationships. Participants also gain ability to communicate more clearly and listen with deep understanding and acceptance.
Karen Lynn and Kurt Treftz each have over twenty five years of contemplative practice and are ‘enlightenment intensive masters.’ Kurt has an MA in behavioral sciences,backgrounds in gnana yoga and other practices,whereas Karen has an extensive background in bodywork and trauma release. 360-320-0771 or www.livingawareness.org

Chickens are one of the most rewarding,inexpensive and easy creatures to raise. Plus,a little flock in your backyard can provide eggs for your family and compost for your garden. After learning a few bird basics,reviewing city ordinances,and looking at sources for chicks and coops,you’ll have a good start on knowing if a flock’s for you.
Jill Eelkema and her five hens,“the ladies”,live near downtown Mount Vernon. Jill grew up with chickens and has been tending her own flock for three years in Skagit. “Not only are these ladies great at composting things you can’t put in your compost heap,but they’re easier to take care of than my cats –and you can’t beat fresh eggs.”

Always want to try a spice but were afraid to? This class we will explore flavors of the world with different spices. We will tour the Middle East,Greek Islands and other far off places,through the world of spices. We will tour the bulk spice department and make a potion to entice our taste buds.
Weight Management

This three part class will cover education regarding food choices,current research about food and health,and a challenge to “clean out the white stuff”in kitchen cupboards! Then we will do a session of hypnosis,followed by some individual coaching,questions and answers. Handouts regarding food,exercise and health will be available as well as information about hypnosis,coaching and weight loss maintenance.
Karen Louise is a Registered Nurse with 30 years experience in healthcare. She is a Certified Hypnotherapist and Life Coach. Karen has developed a program called “The Triad Weight Loss Management Program”assisting those who are frustrated with the weight loss/weight gain cycle. This fresh approach targets the thought processes that need changing in order to maintain long-term weight loss. The Triad is:Hypnosis,Education and Coaching. She is pleased to offer this introduction to a new way of thinking about long-term weight loss management. Join Karen for an informative class and for the pleasurable experience of hypnosis.
Nutrition and Diabetes

Learn how to eat to control your blood sugar and weight. This two-hour class will provide information on healthy eating focusing on the diabetic. In addition,you will also get hands-on practice as you tour the Skagit Valley Food Co-op and learn how to read labels and identify healthy foods.
This class is taught by Lou Kupka-Schutt,PhD,RD with Skagit Valley Hospital.

Reiki Shares are a gathering to give and receive Reiki Treatments. They are a time of sharing,learning and healing that is brought to the table by each person regardless of the individual experience. Connective Tissue:The connection to movement and pain patterns

Learn about the largest organ of our bodies,connective tissue. We will explore some basic anatomy of connective tissue and how it helps us move. We will also look at how scar tissue can affect movement and pain complaints. Learn some home techniques to improve connective tissue mobility.
Ann is a 1980 graduate of Physical Therapy from the University of Puget Sound. She has had extensive training in Craniosacral Therapy and Myofascial Release. In the past she has worked with the dancers at Pacific Northwest Ballet and athletes on the Sonics Basketball team. She started Quality Physical Therapy ten years ago. Peggy graduated from Eastern Washington University with a Masters in Physical Therapy in 2002. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Washington University in Exercise Science in 2000. She has had extensive training in Craniosacral Therapy and Myofascial Release techniques.
