Happy New Year Produce Lovers! It’s a beautiful,cold January day and we are recovering from a busy holiday season here at the Co-op.
Brownfield Orchard is working through their fall storage crops,putting them on sale while the quality is still good. This week look for a good deal on one of our favorite apples,Organic Pink Ladies –$1.69 lb. These small,crisp,pink-blushed apples are an excellent fresh eating apple,with a juicy crunch and good sweet-tart flavor. Organic Gala Apples are also on sale –$1.49 lb. Smaller in size than many varieties,Galas are a good “lunch box”apple,crunchy and sweet.
January marks the beginning of tropical fruit season. We are seeing good prices on Avocados –$1.99 lb for Organic Hass Avocados this week. Organic Pineapple,Mangoes,Papaya,and will soon make the scene at great prices and great quality! Black Sphinx Dates should be arriving from Arizona this week –$7.99 for 1 lb bag. Winter Citrus is also going strong with lots of variety to choose from –oranges,grapefruits,lemons,limes,kumquats,tangerines,mandarins and beyond.
