Check out the line of Brushkins ornaments and pencils available in the Co-op’s Mercantile loft. Brushkins are decorations made from the fiber of the large Buri palm tree, native to the Philippines,Malaysia and Australia. They make great gifts and stocking stuffers for the holidays! The Brushkins company was founded over 16 years ago by a young couple in the Philippines. One day Dinah and Michael Dychinco discussed the potential of an ordinary scrub brush. That initial conversation along with a pair of scissors,a lot of hard work, creativity and ingenuity eventually led to the creation of the Brushkins business. Production now provides jobs at an increased standard of living for over 400 people and their families. Brushkins’bristly fiber is twisted onto a wire and the round brush is hand cut into its final shape and attached to a jute string hanger. Brushkins are “green”decorations that are made without destroying any trees or plants in the production process. These sturdy ornaments will also hold up for many years to come. It’s officially the holiday shopping season! Visit our Co-op’s Mercantile loft for a wonderful assortment of local and consciously crafted artisan gifts for everyone on your list.
